Crafting with Luffa

This is the time of year I start thinking about my holiday gifts. I love to craft and natural luffa sponges are a fun material to use. You can cut the natural fibers and sew with them and also use them to decorate tags and bags. Here are a few simple ideas for you to try at home.

Melt and Pour Luffa Soap

Purchase some melt and pour soap online or at your local craft store or if you are a soap makers already even better! Simply cut your luffa sponge with a bread knife and place inside muffin tins or paper cups. Pour the melted soap over the slice and let cool -- it is that easy to create your own unique luffa soap bar. Experiment with cut shapes or adding grated luffa and dried herbs.

Crafting with luffa as a natural fabric stamp

Luffa Stamps

Cut your luffa slice with a sharp bread knife and use it to decorate fabric or paper bags for gift giving. Super simple -- Prepare your fabric (make sure you put some paper inside your bag so paint won't go everywhere. Dip your gourd slice in paint and have fun with your own garden grown stamp!

For more craft ideas I have put together a few limited edition "gift bags" - these are the same ones I give out at my workshops and they make really nice gifts. You can purchase here on my website and if you would like me to sign the books let me know in the message area.
