Natural Beauty For New Mothers


With Mother's Day coming up this week, I thought I would share some recipes for new mothers. This is an exciting and also challenging time in your life and it is important to find balance and also take good care of yourself. If you know a new or expecting mom you might want to create a few of these recipes for them. They also make welcome gifts for all mothers --as taking good care of yourself is something you never grow out of. Taking good care of your health and well being - benefits everyone - Enjoy!


Cocoa Butter Cream

Pregnant women all around the globe have used rich cocoa butter on their stomach, chest and legs to keep their skin soft and supple and help ward against stretch marks. It is a classic new mother beauty tip. This rich cream recipe is easy to make and also makes a wonderful gift.

Ingredients:

1 /4 cup grated cocoa butter

1 teaspoon almond oil

1-teaspoon light sesame oil

1-teaspoon vitamin E oil

Directions:

Place all the ingredients in a glass container and gently heat in the microwave or in a water bath until the cocoa butter is melted and the oils are well mixed. Pour into a clean container and allow the cream to cool completely. To use: massage a small amount into your skin to soothe and soften.

Yield: 2 ounces


Buttermilk Baby Bath

This gentle milk bath will leave your skin soft and silky, and is mild enough to also use when bathing your baby. Milk is rich in fat and lactic acid, and helps soften and hydrate your skin. Add a few drops of sweet orange oil or your favorite essential oil for a bit of aromatherapy.

Ingredients:

1 /4 cup nonfat dry milk

1 /4 cup whole dry buttermilk

1-tablespoon cornstarch

2-3 drops sweet orange oil (or favorite essential oil)

Directions:

Mix together all of the ingredients and pour into a clean, dry container. To use: pour 1 /4 cup of the bath powder into a full warm tub or water or 1 tablespoon into a small baby bathtub.

Yield: 4 ounces



Lavender Scented Dusting Powder

This is a lovely, rich powder ideal for keeping infants and parents comfortable. Lavender oil is extremely soothing and has antibacterial properties. This simple powder will keep you cool, dry and relaxed.

Ingredients:

1-cup cornstarch

1 /2 teaspoon light oil (almond, sesame, or sunflower)

2-3 drops essential oil of lavender

Directions:

Mix all the ingredients in a resealable plastic bag. Seal the bag and massage the powder until all the oil is evenly distributed. Pour into a clean, dry container.

Yield: 8 ounces


Honey Facial Mask

A good facial mask is important to healthy skin and should be used weekly to deep cleanse your skin and remove any surface impurities. Facial masks are also not just for new mothers, new fathers complexions will also benefit from this soothing and naturally antiseptic treatment.

Ingredients:

1 egg yolk

1-teaspoon honey

1 teaspoon almond oil

1-teaspoon vitamin E oil

Directions:

Place all the ingredients in a bowl and stir until smooth. To use: Spread on your face and neck using your fingertips. Leave the mixture on for 15 minutes, then rinse off with warm water and pat dry.

Yield: 2 ounces



Peppermint Leg Gel

This is a light, invigorating gel that is perfect for tired legs and feet. For extra cooling action, place this gel in the refrigerator before using.

Ingredients:

1 /2 cup aloe vera gel

1 1 /2 teaspoons cornstarch

1-tablespoon witch hazel

3-4 drops essential oil of peppermint

Directions:

Combine the aloe vera, cornstarch and witch hazel in a glass container. Warm the mixture until it is the consistency of honey. (You can do this in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds or in a double boiler on the stovetop.) After the mixture has cooled, add the peppermint oil and stir well. Pour into a clean container. To use: massage into your legs and feet for an instant pick-me-up.

Yield: 4 ounces
