I was part of The International Herb Societies “Herb of the Year book for 2026 “ which was a really fun and interesting project. This year’s herb is Turmeric and it is perfect for natural wellness and body care. If you are interested in ordering send me a message and I can send you the link.

Turmeric has become a superstar in the world of wellness—showing up in everything from golden lattes to healing skin balms. Its popularity is at an all-time high, and everyone is in love with this vibrant yellow-orange spice. But turmeric is anything but new. In fact, it has been used for centuries as both a healing remedy and a cosmetic ingredient.

When it comes to body care, turmeric offers a wide range of benefits—from promoting glowing skin and aiding in healing to treating acne and boosting circulation. These benefits are due to its high content of curcumin, a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compound. Studies have shown that turmeric supports skin healing by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress. It also has a positive effect on tissue repair and collagen production.

This is why turmeric is increasingly featured in commercial cosmetic products—and why it remains a staple in Ayurvedic beauty practices. Below are a few natural beauty recipes that highlight this beloved root. Enjoy!

Glowing Facial Mask

Note: Before applying turmeric to your face, always perform a patch test and wait 24 hours to see how your skin reacts. While turmeric can be used on its own, it may leave a slight yellow tint on the skin. That is why it is best to mix it with other natural ingredients.

In this recipe, honey is added for its skin-healing and antibacterial properties—it helps keep your skin clean, clear, and glowing. You can find turmeric powder or ground turmeric in the spice section of most grocery stores.

Yield: 1 ounce

1 teaspoon ground turmeric powder

1 teaspoon raw honey

2 tablespoons water

In a small bowl, stir together all ingredients until smooth and well blended.

To use:

Apply the mask to clean skin using a small brush or cotton pad. Let it sit for 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with warm water. Gently pat your skin dry.

  Golden Milk Cleanser

Drinking turmeric milk—also known as “golden milk”—is well known for supporting overall health and boosting the immune system. If you are feeling under the weather, a warm cup before bed may help soothe and restore you.

This same golden milk can also be used as a gentle, nourishing skin cleanser. It is both cleansing and moisturizing, making it ideal for all skin types—especially sensitive or mature skin.

Yield: 8 ounces

1 cup whole milk (or substitute with coconut milk)

1 teaspoon ground turmeric powder

In a small saucepan, combine the milk and turmeric powder. Warm gently over low heat, stirring well—do not boil. Let the mixture cool completely.

To use:

Massage the golden milk into damp skin and let it sit for 1–2 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with cool water and gently pat your skin dry.

Storage:

Store any leftover cleanser in a covered container in the refrigerator. It will keep for up to two weeks.

Troubled Skin Toner

Turmeric is considered a super spice—especially when it comes to treating acne and troubled skin. Its natural antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties help fight bacteria and prevent it from spreading. Turmeric also promotes healing and helps reduce redness and irritation caused by blemishes.

Keeping your skin clean and balanced is essential for a healthy complexion. If you cannot find fresh turmeric at your grocery store, you can substitute powdered turmeric root or even turmeric tea in this recipe.

Yield: 8 ounces

1 cup boiling water

6 slices fresh turmeric root

Place the turmeric slices in a small bowl or heat-safe container. Pour the boiling water over the turmeric and allow the mixture to cool completely. Strain out the turmeric and pour the liquid into a clean container with a tight-fitting lid.

To use:

After cleansing your face, apply the toner using a cotton pad or a fine mist spray bottle. Let it absorb into your skin—do not rinse.

Hydrating Body Butter

You can infuse your favorite skin oils with turmeric and use them in recipes for soothing balms and creams. When creating infused oils, always use dried turmeric—never fresh—to avoid introducing moisture, which can lead to bacterial growth and spoilage.

This simple body butter is easy to make and perfect for dry, rough areas that need extra care and protection. Coconut oil adds rich moisture and is known for its calming, skin-soothing properties.

Yield: 4 ounces

1 tablespoon dried turmeric root or powder

1 /2 cup coconut oil

1 tablespoon cocoa butter or shea butter

Place all ingredients in a small saucepan and gently heat on the stove top until the oil and butter just begins to melt. Remove from the heat and stir well until well mixed. Let cool completely and let sit for a few days. Gently reheat the mixture and strain out all solids before pouring into a clean container. To use:  Massage into your skin.

You are beautiful! Enjoy your day xoxo Janice
